The Sustainability Awards is the leading industry event recognising and rewarding outstanding achievement in Sustainability in the built environment and are a key benchmark for achieving best practice in the sector.
Constructing and maintaining sustainable buildings has never been as high on the priority list for governments, policy makers and business leaders across the globe. The 2010 Sustainability Awards are about recognising the hard work and innovation from the many dedicated business leaders within the built environment.
The winners of the 2010 Sustainability Awards were announced on Tuesday 30 November during a ceremony at the Royal College of Physicians in central London, hosted by Building in association with the UK Green Building Council and in partnership with Arup.
Here are some of the winners…

There was tough competition as there were a high number of good-quality entries and plenty of superb projects for the judges to choose from. Architect Arup Associates came away with two awards, scooping Sustainable Designer of the Year and Sustainable Project of the Year (over £10m) with its Harlequin 1 TV studio for broadcaster BskyB. Other winners included Skanska, who won Sustainable Contractor of the Year, developer Citu who won Sustainable Refurbishment Project of the Year with the Greenhouse scheme in Leeds. David Adams, who is a co-director of the Zero Carbon Hub and has just joined contractor Willmott Dixon won the prestigious Sustainability Leader of the Year title.
The ceremony, which was held at the Royal College of Physicians, was hosted by Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury. It followed a panel debate where a selection of the awards judges discussed the big sustainability issues that came up during the judging process.
If you would like more information, the Building Centre in London’s Store Street is showcasing the winners in a display that runs until the end of the year.
